  1. In my experience a cube profits a lot when you sort each color by its converted manacost / or the mana that you usually spend for a card. Sorting everything lexicographic only helps if you want to check if somebody is (not) running card X and you can't see what other cards are currently competing for this slot. here is what I have posted a while ago in the MTGS cube subforum:

(These are the key combinations that work for Windows 7. Check out your manual (or just google for it) what you need to press with your operating system.)
Sorting your cube by color > type > cmc makes it a lot easier to manage your cube. There is even a site that you can use fore this purpose:
    1) Just select all your white spells using CTRL + Left Mouse
    2) copy (CTRL+C) + paste (CTRL+V) them to http://deckstats.net/index.php?lng=en
(make sure that "Interpret card names without a number as "1x card name" is on )
    3) Click on "Analyze"
You now get a list of your cube with mana curve, card type distribution, export function with mouse-over functionality, and can get everything sorted
    4) Click at the small arrow facing up right to the "Mana Cost" column and everything gets automatically sorted by cmc
    5) Now mark all these cards with CTRL+Left Mouse and copy paste them back to your original post
    6) repeat for all the other sections

4')If you are unable to mark a single column and have Magic Workstation installed, you can alternatively just click on "Download for Magic Workstation/ Apprentice" and use the sort + filter tools there.
5') Open the file with MWS
    6) Click on "Complex Card Filter", select only the card types/ colors you are interested in
7') Click on "File" "Export Deck/Base" and Select "Apprentice .DEC" , enter an appropriate filename and confirm with "Save"
8') Repeat 6'+7' with all the other types / color combination
