Student of Warfare in for Akrasan Squire
Linvala, Keeper of Silence in for Galepowder Mage
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief in for Dark Hatchling
Kargan Dragonlord in for Taurean Mauler
Flame Slash in for Fork
Momentous Fall in for Gaea's Anthem
Vengevine in for River Boa
All is Dust in for Triskelavus
Ulamog's Crusher in for Razormane Masticore
Just trying this out... the masticores don't see enough play to justify having both in.

Removing Razormane for a 8 drop can't be right. RM's ability deals with 2/3 of your creatures and a 5/5 first striker is almost impossible to kill in combat. You even can attack into something like a Spectral Force if you shoot at it first.
ReplyDeleteRazormane gives you colorless removal, which is great in Blue with all the card draw and the other colors can use it to get around protection guys + it offers you a discard outlet for reanimation.
There are literally only a handful of artifacts that I would pick over M-CoreII in an unpowered cube.
I think it's reasonable. The masticore is worse in the cube than it was in Mirrodin, because the cards you discard are better, so unless you have a way to abuse that the drawback is real. We've found that we don't really play the masticores much without reanimation or something like Squee. Anyway, the Crusher supports reanimation as well, and if it doesn't work out, the Masticore can go back in albeit with his feelings hurt.
ReplyDelete(Have I said something wrong in my last post, or was there an error during the submission, since somehow my response seems to be removed...)
ReplyDeleteOnce you have reached 5 mana to cast the Razormane, most decks have only little use of lands from the top of your deck, so the Masticore just "spellshapers" them into free, colorless uncounterable creature removal, to kill possible jump blockers, while providing a 4 turn clock on its own.
The Crusher isn't terrible, but the main goal of a reanimator deck is to cheat a dude into play asap and not once you get the mana to hardcast your 9 mana creatures.
Hmm, your previous comment shows up for me. Not sure about that. Anyway, Masticore spent a whole one draft out of the cube, and now he's back in. Whew.
